I'm quite pleased that Prop 2 passed. I know that it scared a lot of people but I think it's a good thing.

I hope that Michelle Obama had a good cry last night. The next four years are going to be really hard for her and will make the election campaign look like a walk in the park.

I feel very sorry for Barack this morning. I would not want to be him. Trying to govern for the next four years is going to be HARD and will make the election campaign look like a walk in the park.

I'm pleased that Indiana ended up for Obama. My Mom was convinced by what had happened in her county during the primaries that her vote would be stolen and it seems that did not happen.

Yay us. Now we can concentrate on what's really important- Top Gear and Doctor Who this weekend on BBC America!

Just kidding.

2008 Vision Builders 5k Run/Walk

Hello friends, family, and small blue furry creatures!

Yes, I'm hitting you up to come out and enjoy a lovely day outside and to support a good cause!

The 2008 5K Run/Walk for Vision Builders is May 10, 2008.
Once again it is at Hudson Mills Metropark.

Register for the race here: register.visionbuilders5k.org
For lots of event info go here: www.visionbuilders5k.org

If you can't walk or run the race you can donate to my fundraising page here: http://www.firstgiving.com/eymill
OR you can donate to Dave's page here: http://www.firstgiving.com/davidrahbari

Please come out for the race, it will *great fun* (we certainly had a good time last year) and Hudson Mills is a beautiful park.
If you can't make it out for the race, please consider leaving a donation on my page, Dave's page or a general donation to VisionBuilders on the registration page.

If you received my emails last year then you are already familiar with Vision Builders and what they do.
If you are a little fuzzy check out: www.visionbuilders.org

But here's an update of what's been happening the past year.

TIBET
With our grant last year the Sengcham Drukmo Home for Girls in Eastern Tibet was able to add a new dormitory building for the girls. They are no longer crammed into a couple of rooms! Yay! This year, Dockpo Tra (the home's founder and leader) would like add a LIBRARY for the girls as there is little access to books for them.
Gee. Could a project be nearer and dearer to my geeky heart than that?
Also, this year the girls received an award for excellence from their public school. Usually this is only given to one girl but our girls are doing SO WELL as group that the whole lot of them received it. Yippee! They have come so far from where they were just two years ago!

Vision Builders had had some hopes of promoting a anti-TB campaign in the Golok region of Tibet (eastern Tibet) but this seems to be on hold for now....for obvious reasons.

INDIA
An important aspect of the Vision Builder's school in Payingdem, India success has been the availability of child care for young not-yet-school-age children provided by the Cooperative Nursery. School-age girls typically end up spending their time looking after young siblings so the addition of a nursery gives them an opportunity to attend school. The Cooperative Nursery in Payingdem is such a rousing success that surrounding villages have request help in establishing their own nurseries. **Right now** Vision Builders volunteer Wangmo is in the Pemako region identifying which villages will receive grants to start nurseries like the one in Payingdem. Also, Wangmo will be staying a while in India to help with running the school and nurseries in Payingdem.

ALSO, two young women from Payingdem, Sering and Karma, are now receiving nursing and medical training so they can return to Payingdem and improve health care of everyone in their village and on their mountain. This training is possible because of scholarships provided by Vision Builders.

**AND** Lastly but not least-ly Vision Builders has purchased small piece of land in Varanasi, India for a new school there. This school will concentrate on educating poor girls from the city of Varanasi who would otherwise not receive any education. The piece of land should also be large enough some school gardens- both for the delight of the girls and to provide fresh vegetables for the school.

Whew! That's a LOT!

Thanks so much for getting this far if you're still reading. And please come!

Love
Kate

The driver this evening was driving like he had Keanu Reeves in the back.

Another call for a home for Oscar. Just to bring him to mind again as you chat with co-workers at office parties. This kitty needs a home! He purred for me tonight when I went over to take out the recycling and trash.
Rinpoche's talk last night was awesome. Events had been closed for so long I'd forgotten the subtle differences between his public and sangha-only talks. It was like seeing an intimate friend at work or up on stage. It was still him but whole flavor was different. A little more formal. A little more wild, too. And of course, very, very funny.
